Active Learning is a pedagogical method that entails involving students in tasks that demand their active engagement in the learning process rather than merely absorbing information passively. The primary objective of active learning is to foster a more profound comprehension of the subject matter, cultivate critical thinking abilities, and enhance the capacity to apply acquired knowledge in practical, real-world contexts.
Within the framework of active learning, students engage in various activities such as discussions, problem-solving tasks, collaborative group exercises, case studies, hands-on experiments, and other interactive experiences. In this approach, the teacher assumes the role of a facilitator, guiding the learning journey and offering assistance as necessary.
In Texas schools, there is a rich linguistic tapestry, with students communicating in over 120 diverse languages. This has led to a growing demand for assistance in English language acquisition among a significant number of Texas students. To address this need, the education system provides resources such as bilingual education and classes focused on English as a Second Language. Furthermore, specialized programs are available to cater to specific student requirements, encompassing early childhood education, dyslexia, and Section 504 training, as well as gifted and talented education. Tailored initiatives are also in place to meet the distinctive needs of students who are migrants or in foster care.
