Celebrity readers use books to spark students’ career interests.

Over 1000 local students participate in Read Across America videoconference event.

March 1, 2010 – Corpus Christi, Texas The Education Service Center has enlisted the talents of celebrity readers in order to spark students’ career interests. Local elementary students (K-3) will watch, listen, and learn as readers share on-the-job fiction stories. After being read to aloud, students will have the opportunity to ask questions about each reader’s career. Regional school districts including Corpus Christi ISD (Driscoll Middle School and Evans Elementary), Odem ISD (Odem Elementary), Riviera ISD, Tuloso-Midway ISD (Tuloso-Midway Intermediate), Taft ISD (Petty Elementary), Gregory Portland ISD (East Cliff Elementary), and Aransas Pass ISD (Aransas Pass Elementary and Kieberger Elementary) will celebrate the National Education Association’s (NEA) 11th annual Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. The schedule is as follows:

TIME READER BOOK

The seven school districts and four celebrity guest readers will be joined together via videoconference through ESC-2’s distance learning program.

Read Across America is a reading motivation and awareness program which takes place each year on or around March 2, 2007, which is Dr. Seuss's birthday. Sponsored by the NEA, Read Across America enlists individuals and organizations across the country to plan and execute activities that will bring reading excitement to children of all ages.

This event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 2, 2010
