London ISD Superintendent honored as Regional Superintendent of the Year.

The Education Service Center, Region 2 (ESC-2) hosted a press conference and reception on Thursday, June 25, 2009 to name Charley McMath (London ISD) as Regional Superintendent of the Year. London ISD is an independent school system which encompasses a 98-square mile area and serves 252 students in grades K-8. Among its projects, London ISD passed a seven-million dollar bond in 2007 for new instructional facilities. Phase I of the expansion which was completed in January 2009, included construction of a new middle school with 16 new classrooms, two computer labs, two science labs, a library, administration offices and a community room. The school district is now in Phase II of the construction project to build bus barn facilities. In addition to expansion projects, under the leadership of McMath, London ISD is working with the Education Service Center, Region 2 to provide a site for an interactive early childhood center to serve young children in the region.

   Since 1984, the Superintendent of the Year award has recognized exemplary superintendents for excellence and achievement in educational leadership. Mr. McMath’s nomination was forwarded to the Texas Association of School Administrators state selection committee, who will announce the Superintendent of the Year at the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Convention.
