Hundreds of parents expected to attend conference on
parent involvement.
Education Service Center and Robstown ISD to host
conference on Wednesday, April 25th
April 24, 2007 – Corpus Christi, Texas —
Robstown Independent School District (RISD) and the Education Service Center,
Region 2 (ESC-2), will be co-sponsoring the 22nd Annual Parent Involvement
Conference on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. This year’s
conference, titled “No Monkeying Around with Our Children’s Education,” will
highlight issues such as societal ills (gangs, drugs, teen suicide, etc.), Texas
graduation requirements, and preparation for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge
and Skills (TAKS). An estimated 500 parents are expected to attend the
General Session from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. by key note speaker Dr. Maria
Consuelo Martinez, a local independent consultant, who will be speaking on the
topic of discipline skills and ideas for parenting.
Parents, community leaders and businesses, as well as educators will have the
opportunity to attend concurrent informational sessions presented by consultants
and specialists from various entities. Presenters include the Texas Migrant
Interstate Program (TMIP); the San Diego, California, Police Department; and the
ESC-2. Entertainment and door prizes will be provided to conference
participants. The conference will be held at the Robstown High School in
Robstown, Texas.
