Dr. Marisa Chapa has led Benavides Independent School District since July of 2019. Previously she served as an educational consultant with Educate Texas to expand the Early College High School model. Dr. Chapa has also been a school teacher, school principal and assistant superintendent. In addition to her work at the K-12 levels, she also has worked with Region One’s adult education program and with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley as a lecturer for the Organizational Leadership graduate program. Dr. Chapa brings significant experience in writing and researching educational topics of major interest for publication.
In her year with Benavides ISD, she has written grants in collaboration with partners leading to over 4.4 million dollars awarded. Dr. Chapa is working on the implementation of an online learning management system for students and curriculum alignment district wide. She is focused on improving the district through collaborate efforts with the team of 8. She works closely with her board to bring about continuous improvement at Benavides ISD.
Dr. Chapa attended Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District schools in Harlingen, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University at Kingsville in 1994 and a Master in Education from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 1994. She completed her studies with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the Texas A&M University at Kingsville in 2015.
Marisa Chapa is the oldest of four sisters. Her and her husband, Martin, have one son, Martin II. The family resides in Kingsville, Texas. They are loyal tailgating fans for the Javelinas and also enjoy spending time at the beach. Dr. Chapa and her family love to travel.
