Introduction
You have a pen pal from Sweden. Christmasis coming up.
Will you send a card and/or a gift for the 25th?
Do people from Sweden open gifts that day?
How do you say “Merry Christmas” in their language?
How different is their Christmas from ours?
(Note: A different country may be used.)
Tasks
Use the internet to explore and identify the differences in Christmas traditions between Sweden and the United States.
Task 1
Make a Venn diagram depicting likes and differences.
Task 2
Make a Swedish Christmas craft to demonstrate understanding of their culture/tradition.
Task 3
Make a picture Christmas card with the greeting in their language to send them.
Process
1. Choose a partner to work with. Decide who will look for information on Sweden and who will look for specific information on the United States Christmas traditions.
2. Brainstorm important details to compare about the holiday. Write questions on the information to look for and record.
